Wow- it's been 1 month since we met the boys. This month has gone so quickly! In some ways, it seems like longer, but in a good way. So, what's the update.... well, the boys are doing great! Kalid's personality has come out and he is a happy little boy! The fits are few and far between and short lived when he has them. He seems like he's very comfortable now and can just be himself. We didn't know when we met him that this was his personality. But he loves telling jokes and laughing. He's trying to use English more. He jumps/gallops/dances from room to room instead of walking tentatively. He still is a momma's boy, but loves his poppa too and loves his big brothers. He's doing so much better when we go places- not as overwhelmed.
Abuzaid is a sweet, energetic boy. He's almost always smiling. When he's not, it's hard to know why, but I think his language will come soon- he's really trying to speak a lot of English. I'm so happy they have each other to speak to in their own language (which I'm convinced is a mixture of Oromiffa and Amharic- not sure why I think that, but I do). He has been diligently trying to learn to ride a bike. He started out about 2 1/2 weeks ago not having a concept of pedaling, progressed to the trike and mastered that. Now has moved on to his bike with training wheels. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the training wheels off in the next few weeks- it's amazing to watch and he's so persistant in learning it!
One of my favorite things is to take them to the store because they get SOO excited about everything they see! It's fun to listen to them talk to each other about it and ask me questions about things.
Tomorrow, we have our first dentist appt. Hopefully that will go well and Kalid won't freak out. We know he has at least 2 cavities because they're big black holes in his teeth. Abuzaid's teeth are crammed in there, but not as noticeable holes in them.
It's funny how people say that Ethiopians are quiet people- these Ethiopians are NOT:). It's been such an amazing month- we feel blessed that it's gone so well and know that some time it might not. But we'll just enjoy the peaceful ride for now!
I'll post a picture of our first group shot with them at the orphanage- taken one month ago today (courtesy of our friend Jenni:)).
So good to read your update---sounds like you guys are doing great!!!
