Temesgen update

After all those pictures, I thought I'd give an update on our newest sweet boy.  We've been home for 7 1/2 weeks now.  He is such a sweet kid.  He gets along well with his brothers.  He has the ability to get frustrated with them, which is so very normal (as I type this, I'm kind of frustrated with a couple of them too:)).He tends to be quiet unless he's playing outside.  Even then, he doesn't get too chatty, but he's just louder.  He never uses any Amharic words.  I don't know if he's lost a lot of them already or if he's still thinking in Amharic, but trying to speak in English.  Kalid and Abuzaid both lost their language quickly and that was with having each other to speak to.  He tends to like to use English words he knows- he's not a huge fan of repeating but will do it.  I think he likes to use words that he knows he's saying perfectly, which I understand.  At dinner each night, we go around the table and say the good things about the day and he's finally figured out what we're doing each night and will say a couple of things with a smile when it's his turn.  He still likes to go off by himself every once in a while (so do I, at this house:)).  He seems to truly be adjusting really well and I will appreciate that!!!!
He starts school tomorrow- he'll be in 3rd grade with Landon (in the same class this year).  According to his age, he should be in 4th, but that seemed like such a huge jump when he's at a kindergarten level academically.  He's met his teacher and seems excited about it.  I'm sure being there all day will wear him out- trying to listen to all of that English all day. His brain will be ready for a break when he's done!  I'm thankful Landon will be in there with him- having someone who he knows and loves to look to when he's getting overwhelmed.  They're even sitting next to each other- I'm going to have to get a picture of that tomorrow!  So anyway- I'm not trying to sugar coat things- he's really doing well and is such a wonderful addition to our little family of 7!

  1. So happy things are going so well! Eli is repeating a lot, which makes us super aware of everything we say. :)
