During the offering, people brought either money or crops. At the end, there was an auction for these items. It was fun to watch and participate in! I bought all of those bananas to give away.
Then, we went to Alex's house. Alex had been staying away from his house because he knew people were waiting to arrest him until he could pay back his father's medical debt (his father had passed away and being the eldest son, it was then his responsibility). The debt got figured out, but the house was still so overgrown- the yard was out of control and full of trash. We decided to go help him clean up a bit. Most of the church members came along and some villagers jumped in to help too. We got a ton of work done in 45 minutes. Spontaneous worship erupted inside the house so we all went in to see what was going on. The house was a big house for Uganda and it was filled beyond capacity at that moment. What was happening is that 7 people gave their life to Christ in the living room. Jonah and I, along with some of our teammates, had the opportunity to pray over these new believers. It was an intense time! Jonah and I had a great discussion a few days later- he said, "The thing I don't understand is that no one even said anything about Jesus, but all of these people came to Christ." We had a great discussion about love and serving and how your actions can speak louder than the best sermon. The people in the village saw a miracle- people helping each other when they have nothing to gain from it. Of course, we all know how much we gained that day. And it has nothing to do with material possessions.
